Leadership Lecture

flint water.png

We had a guest speaker come in around the end of September, and she talked about how Flint is still in need of water. I assumed that the crisis was over when I stopped hearing news about it. Unfortunately, it hasn’t stopped. She talked about how it takes a lot of bottles of water to clean, cook, and groom the part of Flint that this crisis has impacted. She gave us an opportunity to come to Flint and help pass out water to people of Flint. I wish I could of went, but I had to go to a conference in Rose City. Nevertheless, what I took from it is that I should read more about current events and keep up with them. Also, to expand on that,  as a leader it is often hard to be on top of everything. It helps leaders to an extent to use a planner and or tape recorder. However, a leader should use all their resource to be informed and involved. This means that by asking others, putting sticky notes everywhere, and  having some minimal routine. This Flint water crisis has been going on for at least 3 years not. It is sad to see this city not yet at the end of this nightmare. I heard recent news that to get Flints situation under control it will take  3 more years to get treated water back  into the city and 3 more years to get people moving again. I wish this event didn’t happen and could of been avoided.

COM 267 Reflection

mmmm

Professor Hillman was my favorite teacher to have this semester for a required class. He was my favorite because he was a kindhearted man. It’s a good kind of kind hearted, because I compare myself to him, and I could relate and frequently talk to him. I told him good luck as a dad for his wife had the baby in November. This class made me like to debate, because I was challenged by Lucas G. a lot. He is my good friend, and we would have good arguments. To expand on my classroom teaching, not only did I debate but I also learned techniques and various words associated with public speaking. It is often a priority for leaders to stand up and face their foes. By having this class I was able to hone my skills to speak in front of crowds. I also learned that many famous people like president Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. had the capability to speak in front of at least a crowd of 2,000 people. It was a great time in this class, and I was able to open up to people about my thoughts and beliefs. Sometime in the future, I want to advocate myself even more to people about various issues and topics that I find interesting.  I did a job well done earning my grade in this class. I have 3 and a half more years to go at CMU!

LDR 100 Book presentations reflections

I loved this book!  However, I lost my first original copy of the book, because it was stolen from the café. Fortunately, Dan Gaken gave me his copy which I will be returning soon. (Which I did).  It was a good book that was chalk full of info.  It was the first book that I fully read since the start of the school year. I was in a group of friends, and I had a presentation that went well too. We took a video of passing out little quotes of inspiration. it was good and fun. I recommend this book to read, because it makes you think of yourself doing this or asking yourself if you are doing these 25 steps.

Spark Leadership Experience

mhm

I went to Spark leadership experience early in the fall, so I can get information on spark leadership early. It was great! It opened up with Dan Gaken taking about how Al Capone’s son become a better person even though the family name is tarnished as gangsters. I was proceeded to go into groups. These groups identified me as an optimistic. Then we went to rooms with games and activities. I remember helping Madison Mariles through a room filled with mouse traps, and I was in another room filled with people who spoke different languages. It was a neat experience and all of them had the same theme of leadership. Helping others will come along way.

Connections Conference Reflections

Ugh.jpg

I had a splashing good time at connections conference. I learned from 3 keynote speakers about how to become a better leader. I can’t recall their names, but their presentations I can vividly recall.

The first leadership speaker had a presentation on Harry Potter. It was about dumping out. Sometimes it’s good to talk to people who might be in the center of the situation, but you need to prioritize of what is okay to say and who it is okay to say it to.

The next one was about growing your garden. The speaker had a tree and it was about who you are and how you can connect with yourself.

The last one was about Disney and how you can make your dreams come true. It was about making yourself a good person. How you achieve anything if you go the distance.

Because of these speakers I questioned myself and asked how can I improve myself. What I did was exactly what they preached and so far it is working out for myself.

I enjoyed the waterpark, ice cream shop, and being with friends. I had the best experience ever. I wouldn’t want to forget a moment.

Psychology Reflection

sloan-hall

Having Psychology was hard. I never had this class before. At a college level it challenged me in a good way. Before college I took sociology which is on the opposite end of the spectrum. It may be -ology, but psych was about why a person did something, and social was about why did they did something. Matt Prewett was a good professor, and Mindtap was a good education learner. However, at times it got really hard where I had to really think about the questions he was asking. It was because there was  definitions that were so similar to eachother. However, with time I got used to his questions and started to think outside the box. It was a good time. However, I got tired in the class though because of how hot it got in the room toward the end of the semester. I think I learned some good components from this class that I will use in my leadership in everyday life.

Mentor/Mentee Retreat Reflection

m

Hannah Bastian is an amazing mentor. Without her the high ropes course would of been difficult. She made me happy , for she accepted me without knowing me at all. I am currently crying as I write this, because Hannah makes my day. We talked all the way to the cabins and we did a canoe trip down a river in Hersey Michigan. During this canoe trip it started to rain, and we had to abandon canoe. I was happy none the less. It was grand. What I learned from this was everyone is chill. I got to talk to all the sophomores and freshmen. We all slept in the main lobby area. It was discomforting on my body, but in my heart I cherished every moment.

Leadership Safari Reflection

meh

I loved Leadership Safari, for it was my first inside look at CMU. It was August 20th, 2016 and I arrived around 1:00pm. My family and I got my room all set up, and I felt very cozy. It was a good day. I talked to some neighbors and made new friends. That same day I was split into my animal group of Iguanas. My leader was Owen Wood and he was rad. The one event that we did that stood out the most was learning about hunger. It was ghastly knowing how many people benefit from hand outs in Mt. Pleasant. What I will do in the future is try to be involved with humane society projects. This was an amazing experience as we celebrated leadership safari’s 20th anniversary.
